How pickup works at Wilmington (Port of Los Angeles)

  1. Send us your paperwork

Send the items listed below. Your Delivery Order must name Ship2Shore Booking in the “Local Delivery or Transfer By” box.

  2. We verify payments and customs

We verify that all payments to the steamship line are paid and that customs has cleared your vehicle in the system.

  3. Gate pass is issued

Once everything is verified and cleared, the gate pass is issued along with your Delivery Order.

  4. Your escort finds the vehicle

The TWIC-credentialed escort enters the port, locates your vehicle and brings it to the gate. A jump start, air and two gallons of gas are included if needed so it can leave the port.

  5. Condition report and handoff

A condition report is completed at the gate, with photos and video when required, and signed at handoff.

Days and notice

We pick up at Wilmington on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. It is closed on Wednesdays and on weekends, so plan your date around those days.

We need 24 hours’ notice. The payment and customs checks above have to be done before a gate pass can be issued, so the sooner you send your paperwork, the sooner we can book a day.

Port and terminal hours can change. Availability depends on the port’s schedule and on whether your vehicle and paperwork are cleared before pickup.

What you need to send us

Your Delivery Order must name Ship2Shore Booking in the “Local Delivery or Transfer By” box.

What it costs

A jump start, air and two gallons of gas are included if needed so the vehicle can leave the port. Electric and hybrid vehicles, and anything more involved, go to the port’s professional mechanic. You pay after handoff, by credit or debit card through a secure invoice link, Cash App, Venmo, Zelle or Apple Pay.

What a typical Wilmington pickup costs

Most vehicles that have been sitting at the port need a jump start and a little gas. Here is what that looks like at the Wilmington terminal gate, and with Ship2Shore.

The part the price list does not show

In our experience at the Wilmington gate, you need a gate pass issued before you arrive. Without one you will not be admitted, even to buy the terminal’s escort or any other gate service. That means doing the homework first: finding out whether the steamship line and customs are clear, getting the paperwork right, and getting the gate pass in hand before you drive down.

With Ship2Shore, we take that on

Release is always up to the steamship line, customs and the port. We check first, and we never promise a vehicle will be released.

Why Ship2Shore

Questions

Why can’t you pick up on Wednesdays?

Wilmington is closed on Wednesdays and weekends. We schedule Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.

Do I need a TWIC card?

No. You never need a TWIC card and you do not go inside the port. Our escort goes in for you.

What do you check before the pickup?

We verify that all payments to the steamship line are paid and that customs has cleared the vehicle in the system. The steamship line, customs and the port decide release; we check status and can’t clear it ourselves.

Can you help with a dead battery or an electric vehicle?

If it’s needed so the vehicle can leave the port, a jump start, air and two gallons of gas are included. Electric and hybrid vehicles, and anything more involved, go to the port’s professional mechanic.
